Movie-going population barometer April 2018
In April 2018, the movie-going audience was mostly made up of men (52.4%, 50.5% in March 2018).
The proportion of individuals under 15 in the movie-going audience increased (17.1% in April 2018 compared to 15.3% in March), due to the School Holidays. Cumulatively, over the four last months of 2018, the share of 3-14 years old reached 15.8%. The share of 15-24 years old is stable (20.1%, compared to 20.0% in March 2018), whereas the share of seniors decreased (37.6%, compared to 39.5% in March). In April 2018, the average age of cinemagoers is 38 years.
The share of the upper socio-professional category decreased in April (29.2% compared to 29.7% in March 2018), whereas the share of “non-working individuals” increased (52.5% compared to 51.3% in March 2018). This is mainly due to the share of students (+2,4 percentage point compared to March).
In April 2018, the proportion of frequent cinemagoers was relatively high during week 16 (20.4%). Globally, frequent cinemagoers accounted for 15.9% of moviegoers in April (compared to 16.0% in March) and occasional cinemagoers made up 34.5% (37.7% in March).
