Movie-going population barometer May 2017

In May 2017, the movie-going audience was mostly made up of men (56.3%, compared to 54.1% in April 2017).

The proportion of individuals under 15 in the movie-going audience decreased (13.8% in May 2017 compared to 16.2% in April 2017). Cumulatively, over the five last months of 2017, the share of 3-14 years old reached 13.9%. The share of 15-24 years old decreased in May 2017 (20.0%, compared to 20.7% in April), whereas the share of seniors is stable (22,9%, compared to 22.5% in April).

The share of the upper socio-professional category increased (34.0% compared to 32.8% in April 2017), whereas the share of “non-working individuals” decreased (39.5% compared to 42.5% in April 2017). This is mainly due to the share of schoolchildren, students in the movie-going audience (-2.5 percentage points compared to April 2017).

In May 2017, the proportion of frequent cinemagoers was relatively high during weeks 20 and 21 (over 30%). Globally, frequent cinemagoers accounted for 27.0% of moviegoers in May (compared to 25.0% in April) and occasional cinemagoers made up 14.9% (16.6% in April).
