According to the last estimates made by the CNC, admissions in film theatres reached 23.83 millions in December 2017.
After a particularly high attendance in 2016, cinema admissions totalled 209.2 millions in 2017 (‑1.8%), reaching the third highest level of admissions in 50 years, and much higher than the ten‑year average (205 millions). For the fourth consecutive year, the number of admissions exceeds 200 millions. Theater attendance in France in 2017 remains the highest in Europe.

Increase in the attendance of French films
The attendance of French films has grown by 2.6% in 2017 to reach 78.19 millions. The market share of French films is 37.4% in 2017 (35.8% in 2016).
Decrease in admissions for American films
In 2017, attendance of American films has decreased by 8.6% to reach 102.04 millions. The market share of American films is 48.8% en 2017 (52.9% in 2016).
Strong increase in admissions for non-French and non-American films
Attendance of non-French and non-American films is up 15.1%, reaching 28.98 million admissions. Their market share is 13.9% in 2017 (11.2% in 2016).
In 2017, 14 films attained more than 3 million admissions
A particularly high number of films registered more than 3 million admissions in 2017, with 14 films over this threshold, the highest level since 2010. 52 films registered more than 1 million admissions (53 films in 2016). The number of films over 500,000 admissions is one of the lowest in the decade with 88 films.

17 French films over 1 million admissions
In 2017, 4 French films registered more than 3 million admissions: Raid dingue with 4.6 millions, Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets with 4 millions, Alibi.com with 3,6 millions and C'est la vie! (Le sens de la fête) with 3 millions. There were only 2 films reaching this threshold in 2016. 17 French films gathered more than 1 million admissions (18 in 2016).

18 American films registered more than 2 million admissions
In 2017, 2 American films reached more than 5 million admissions: Despicable Me 3 with 5.6 millions and Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi with 5.2 millions. 10 American films registered over 3 million admissions, as in 2016. 34 American films totalled more than 1 million admissions, the highest number since 2013, and 52 exceeded 500,000 admissions.
